The Big First Grader

A few weeks ago, there was an open house at Jonathan's school. He was so proud to show all of the work he had accomplished. Here he is with his teacher, Mrs. Downey, and sitting at his desk. Mrs. Downey has been so wonderful for Jonathan. She has been loving and patient and taught him all the things that a first grader needs to know. Jonathan is such a good reader! He is even reading scriptures with us and does a great job.

A word from Jonathan: This is me. The one in the blue shirt . I use brain power a lot.
Sitting quietly at your desk with your hands folded and eyes on the teacher is called brain power. Mrs. Downey knows all kinds of tricks to get the kids to do what they need to do. For example, she told a story one day about how scientists came into a classroom and noticed that all of the smart kids had clean desks. After that day, Jonathan has taken great pride in his desk and keeping it clean. Before that day it was a completely different story.
Jonathan will be finishing 1st grade next Thursday. I just cannot believe how quickly the year has gone!
