TV Time

At the end of the day, this is normally what the boys look like, all gathered around daddy, because he will let them watch TV with him before bedtime. They love to watch TV. They really get into shows like Planet Earth, How It's Made, or anything on Animal Planet. Of course they love cartoons and other kid shows, but with controlling parents like us, those shows are limited. We do let them watch PBS kid shows and a bit of Nickelodeon if it is a learning show. Somedays, when they are feeling TV deprived, they will even watch the Food Network with me, just because it's TV. This summer I started a reward system in which they could earn TV time. If they do a homework page, they can earn 5 minutes of TV time, so 6 worksheets=30 minute show. The TV time comes after chores and lunch and there is a two hour limit. It has been a bit successful, but we have been so busy that they really haven't had time to do the work. Maybe this week we'll get back into it.

What a cute shot! Plus, I always enjoy the parenting tips, especially with TV. I'm so sensitive about what is "too much," so I like your rules and rewards.

So my boys love to watch TV with their daddy too! He makes them watch baseball, history chanel, animal planet, & discovery. HOw cute! I really do try to limit their tv time but to keep my sanity it is hard to do.

Leslie, you are a genius. I wish I was better at limiting TV time for me and the kids! It seems like the only peaceful moments in the house are when the dang boob tube is on!

At least I am not the only "mean mom" Anna said if I was nice she wouldn't have any chores. You are awesome. I can't believe there are so many boys in the picture!!! You are really outnumbered.
